Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It was great to see all the students and staff back after their long winter break. We have all been impressed with how quickly the kids have settled into school routines.
A Warm Welcome to our New Staff Members
Cath Wan - our new Vice Principal and Curriculum Coordinator has now joined us and is enjoying spending time around the school getting to know the staff and students and getting a feel for learning at Kennedy School. You’ll also see Cath at the front gate some mornings - please introduce yourself.
Minnie Yuen – EA for 2E. Minnie is now on a permanent contract at KS after having worked part-time for us last year. Minnie has settled quickly into 2E.
Ameer Zeb - ICT Manager. Ameer is very experienced, having worked for many years at ESF South Island School, and we are delighted to have him leading our ICT team.
Campus Improvements
Some painting of staircases took place over the break and this has really tidied up this area so it looks bright and smart again. The House banners on the outside of the building were also replaced and these have given the school a much better appearance. We are currently asking for suggestions about other ways of improving the campus for learning and play. You know we will be upgrading the playground in December 2023. If there are other areas of the campus that you would like to see improved, please send me an email to share your thoughts.
Chinese New Year
The school is beautifully decorated, we hear the sounds of cymbals and drums and the excitement of the children, knowing that the Year of the Rabbit is approaching. We have a wonderful programme planned for next week including; a fun fair with games and activities, performance assemblies, lion and dragon dances and lots of crafts and lessons related to this very important festival.
The school will end at 3 pm on Friday 20 January for the one-week break to celebrate the new year.
School Uniform for the Winter Weather
As the weather is going to be chilly at times, please purchase your child’s additional uniform items here. Please remember to name all uniform pieces.
If your child is cold in class, they will need to wear one of the uniform pieces rather than the jacket. We keep the rain/wind jackets outside in the lockers instead of wearing them in class. The shoes need to be black school shoes, please.
End of Term 1 Assessments and Reporting
Please find the Kennedy assessment and reporting schedule as follows:
End of Term 1 Reports - released on Friday, 13th January 2023
International Schools Assessments (ISA) Year 4 to 6 - released on Wednesday, 11th January 2023
Interactive Computerised Assessment System (InCAS) Year 3 to 6 - released on Friday 3rd February 2023
Parents will receive an alert through the ESF app once the assessments/reports are ready to view.
If you have any questions or queries about this, please contact Rudi Dray, our Vice Principal at rdray@kennedy.edu.hk
ESF Connections Programme
If your child is away from school due to sickness or isolation orders and would still like to learn online, they can access the ESF video resources, which you can find here.
If you want to contact any leadership team member, you will find us in the playground or email me at bcook@kennedy.edu.hk.
Kind regards,
Brenda

Sports Days are back!
We are delighted to say that we will be able to host our Kennedy Sports Days for the first time in over three years. Our Sports Days will be held on the athletics track at HKU Stanley Ho Sports Centre opposite our school. Parents are very welcome to attend. The dates and times for our sports days are as follows:
Year 1 and Year 2: Tuesday 7th February 12.20 pm to 2.30 pm
Year 3 and Year 4: Tuesday 7th February 9 am to 11.30 am
Year 5 and Year 6: Wednesday 8th February 9 am to 12 pm
Students should wear their Kennedy PE uniform to school on their Sports Day.
We would like to ask for 4 parent volunteers from each class to assist us for the day. If you are able to come and help with scoring an event, please let your class teacher know.
Please note that there is no parking available at HKU.
If any Year 1 or Year 2 parents plan to take their child home after the event, please inform Steven Chen (bus@kennedy.edu.hk) as soon as possible so that the buses can depart promptly. As Sports Day is in the morning for all the other year groups, students will return to their classes for regular lessons in the afternoon.
