Messages from Brenda
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We hope you're doing well! We had a fantastic long weekend with beautiful weather and have had a busy week back, packed with exciting activities and events. We were thrilled to see so many year 3 parents and family members in school for the Year 3 Art exhibition. The creativity of our students was truly wonderful! Year 6 have been enjoying their transition days at West Island School this week and will continue next week. Sports teams are back in action with excellent results from our cricket team.
We also had leaders from Beacon Hill School and Glenealy School visit us today. We conducted a school-wide walk-through and gathered feedback from students on how they can articulate their strengths and areas for improvement as learners and share their next steps. This data and analysis will help us make further progress in this area.
Kennedy School Promotional Video
This week, a film crew visited our school to capture footage and chat with our students, staff, and parents about why 'We Love Kennedy.' We were thrilled to see the compilation of learning experiences and extracurricular activities showcased in the coverage. The crew was impressed with the opportunities our students have to thrive and develop a love of learning. We will share the final video with you as soon as we receive it. Thank you to everyone involved!
Feedback from the ESF Stakeholder Survey
In our recent ESF Stakeholder survey, feedback highlighted that the school prioritises student well-being and provides a varied and enjoyable curriculum. We foster community spirit, encourage socialising, and listen to student ideas. At Kennedy School, diversity, equity, and inclusion are important, and we strive to support staff development in this area. Our school provides individualized support, open communication, and a safe and nurturing environment. We promote creativity, problem-solving, outdoor activities, and instill social responsibility in our students.
We also received feedback on areas for improvement from our parents and caregivers. We understand that communication is essential, and we are working on ways to improve communication about your child's progress. We also recognise the importance of academic and emotional support for all levels of students. Health and Safety are a top priority, and we are committed to ensuring a continuing focus in this area. Additionally, we understand the importance of transparency in the curriculum and learning outcomes, and we are working to improve our reporting and communication with parents in these areas.
Thank you for your continued support and feedback. We are committed to providing the best possible education for your child.
Helper Appreciation Month
Hong Kong celebrates Helper Appreciation Month in May, and as the majority of Kennedy families have domestic helpers, students are encouraged to show their appreciation and discuss small gestures to express gratitude. A Padlet has been set up for students to share a message of appreciation with their helper or family member, and families are invited to participate by using the link here, encouraging their child to use their helper's name in the message. We look forward to sharing these in class during the month of May.
If you would like to contact any members of the leadership team, you will find us in the playground or you can locate our emails on the ESF APP. You can email me at bcook@kennedy.edu.hk.
Kind regards,
Brenda

Yearband Led Dress Up Day News **Stop Press**
Year 2 have decided that on Friday 19th May the whole school should come to school dressed in an animal theme…..you could come as a Lion, Dragon, Unicorn or Phoenix OR you could wear your favourite leopard print outfit, cats ears, zebra stripes, elephant print T-shirt - the sky is the limit - have a look what you have at home already and be creative !
We will collect voluntary donations of $20. Students may hand their donation in as they arrive at school that day.
Year 2 are saving up to use the funds raised to organise a VR experience to learn about animals that live in difficult environments! Thank you for your support in advance!
PTA Coffee Morning - Friday 5th May 8:20am - 9:30am
Our PTA will hold a coffee morning tomorrow.
We will speak about Technology here at Kennedy School.
Our office and IT team will run through how to use the following technology tools - ESF App, VLE, Gateway and Seesaw.
We will also hear from Brenda Cook, Rudi Dray and Rory Douglas on some very exciting new developments for IT at school.
This is thoroughly recommended especially (but not limited) to parents who are relatively new to ESF. It is also a wonderful chance to meet other parents.
Please register to attend here

Swimming is back with a splash!
This week our students have really enjoyed getting back into the pool at HKU at the start of our Summer Swimming Programme. It has been fantastic to see the level of confidence shown so far. Please encourage your child to swim in the pools and beaches as well. This is a great way to stay healthy now that the weather has warmed up.
Here is next week’s Swimming schedule (8 to 12 May 2023):

Congratulations Kennedy Cricketers
On Wednesday our Kennedy Cricket Team performed really well at HKCC in the HKPSSA Island Tournament. Our cricketers won 4 out of 5 matches and played with good spirit in many exciting matches. The standard of batting, bowling and fielding continues to improve and we look forward to the Cricket Championships at the end of May. If your child also plays cricket and is not currently signed up for Kennedy cricket training please contact the school office and we will try to accommodate your child into our training. Our cricket club runs every Tuesday straight after school.
