Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Year 6 Exhibition
It was such a highlight for the Year 6 students to share their amazing exhibitions with their families today. The PYP Exhibition is an opportunity for Y6 students to research and problem solve, draw upon and extend their skills, knowledge, strengths, passions and interests. They do this in order to make a positive difference through actions they plan and implement.
We saw a vast range of passions, interests and global issues exhibited. Students were articulate, enthusiastic and motivated and loved having the rest of the school community and their families share the learning process with them. Congratulations to our Year 6 students and all the staff who worked alongside the students to bring out the very best in them. It was very impressive and a proud moment for all!
Year 6 Exhibition introduction and overview
West Island School Collaboration
Many thanks to the Year 12 students from West Island School who spent the week working with different year groups, especially with the Year 6s, to help with their exhibition. Many of the students were taught by our teachers when they were at primary school so it was lovely for everyone to reconnect. They were such assets in the classroom, we hope they will return again soon! Year 9 students from West Island school also visited to collaborate with our Year 4s.
There was more excitement today with our last class in Year 3 attending HK Forest Adventures; Virtual reality experiences for the Year 2s and a tournament this evening for our netballers. It’s all go!
If you would like to contact any members of the leadership team, you will find us in the playground or you can locate our emails on the ESF APP. You can email me at bcook@kennedy.edu.hk.
Kind regards,
Brenda

Hats in School and for After School Clubs
Please ensure your child brings a Kennedy hat to school every day. This could be a Kennedy cap, hat, or their recently worn camp hat (Years 4,5 or 6 only). It is very important that our students have a hat with them in school at all times to be protected from the sun, especially with the very hot weather we are experiencing. This is especially important for students taking part in After School Sports Activities which are outdoors. To be fully protected from the elements, we recommend your child wears a hat, suncream and insect repellent.
Next Week's Swimming Schedule
Year 6 Swim Gala - Parent Help Needed
The Year 6 Swim Gala will take place at HKU Stanley Ho Swimming Pool on Friday 16th June for the students from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm approximately.
The gala will be an exciting morning of swimming participation, competition and house rivalry. The swimming gala is part of the Year 6 swimming programme and will conclude the Summer Swimming Programme for the year and is a celebration of the Kennedy School students’ swimming ability. Each child will be given the opportunity to enter races at a level to match their swimming ability. There will also be freestyle relay races.
All Year 6 parents are invited to attend this event and cheer on the children. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this event, please fill in the form and I will be in touch with you soon.
Tetrapak Collection - Progress Report
We are nearly at the end of our year long challenge to find the House that collects the most tetrapaks! The Environmental Ambassadors have been checking and weighing all the packs that sent in to school every Monday and the current scores are as follows:
1. Dragons 90 kg - in the lead so far!
2. Unicorns 88 kg - so close to 1st place!
3. Lions 69 kg - you can do it!
4. Phoenix 61 kg - do a neighbourhood collection!
TOTAL: 308 kg beverage cartons saved from the landfill since September 2022.
Let’s bring the total up by bringing in more tetrapaks on Monday mornings! The final count will be conducted on Monday 19 June and winners will be announced then. The winning House will have a movie lunch in the Hall.
(Note that we will continue to collect drink cartons till the end of the term.)
To learn more about our tetrapak recycling programme, please contact Mr Tremmel ttremmel@kennedy.edu.hk.
Yearband Led Dress Up Day
Last Friday 19th May, the whole school arrived dressed for the theme “Animals”. We raised $11,000 for Year 2 to fund the VR experience “Animals living in difficult environments”
Please click on the link below for photos from the day!
Animals Dress Up Day Photo Album
All Year 2 classes had their VR Experience today. The K-Lab was filled with excitement as the children travelled around the world through forests, sky and seas as part of their Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet.
The next and final Yearband led Dress Up Day for the year will be on Friday 16th June with Year 1 in charge. As they are in the middle of their “Who We Are” unit of inquiry, they would like everyone to come to school wearing their FAVOURITE OUTFIT ! (This can, of course, be the school uniform!)
Year 1 are saving up to enjoy a Doodle Class with Katie Flowers from Wild At Art, so please send a donation of $20 on the day.
Second Hand Uniforms
As announced in last week's newsletter, we are accepting donations of secondhand uniforms as the whole school prepares to fully transition to the new uniform style from August 2023.
Second Hand Uniforms should be clean and folded neatly. Donations should be brought to reception or the PTA Office during between 8 am to 3.30 pm on week days. We will continue to accept donations of the old style uniforms until 30 August 2023.
If you have any connections with organisations that would be in a position to help recycle or reuse these uniforms, or if you have any queries, please contact Fiona at pta@kennedy.edu.hk
End of Year Memories!

Join the virtual audience for ESF’s largest inter-school Esports Tournament
ESF is staging its largest inter-school Esports Tournament on Saturday 3 June (secondary teams) and Sunday 4 June (upper primary teams) from 10 am to 4 pm.
25 student teams from across 18 of our primary and secondary schools will come together to demonstrate their skills using this year’s chosen computer game - Minecraft.
Minecraft was selected by our teachers and students because it encourages players to collaborate creatively and problem-solve while tackling building challenges and immersing themselves in imaginative adventure-style puzzles.
Kennedy School will be fielding a team of Year 4 and 5 students, called the KS Hot Dogs. Please support them by watching and encouraging them on the tournament live-stream on the ESF Facebook page!
Please take the Orchestra Survey so that we have a better understanding of what orchestra instruments the children at Kennedy School play. Kennedy School Orchestra survey The survey closes on 31 May 2023.
Order your limited edition Kennedy School Yearbook 2022-23 by sending an email to office@kennedy.edu.hk.
