Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having lately.
Excursions and Camps
As we head into November, our camping and excursion programme is about to kick off, and we couldn't be more thrilled about the current weather conditions. Today, our Year 4 students are embarking on their overnight camp adventure. Thanks to all of you for your unwavering support of this programme. We also extend a big thank you to our dedicated staff members who sacrifice their own time with family, pets, and comforts to provide this incredible experience for your children. We firmly believe that these camps create memories that will be cherished for a lifetime and are often considered the highlight of the year.
Fun-O-Ween
We wanted to take a moment to appreciate the fantastic effort that went into making our school look fun and fabulous during ‘Fun-O-Ween’. The creative costumes worn by our students brought smiles to everyone's faces and made for a great first day back at school.
Diwali items
We are delighted that we have received numerous items for our upcoming Diwali celebrations during the week of November 12th. Thank you so much for your contributions. This is the final call for any additional items, so please let us know by the end of this week if you would like to contribute further. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
School Uniforms
We kindly request that you ensure your child is wearing the appropriate school uniform items.

Games is back!
Our Games Programme is in full swing and our students are enjoying developing their skills and fitness levels in all year groups. The children take part in a wide variety of activities developing gross motor skills such as throwing, balancing, catching, kicking and striking games in the early years to then applying these skills into sports in the upper years.
In Years 1 to 3, Games sessions are taught in the regular class groups. In Years 4 to 6, students are grouped into their Houses. Students have the opportunity to learn from specialist coaches from Hong Kong Cricket Club, Valley Fort Rugby Club, Tekkers Football as well as our specialist PE Teachers.
Yoga
Our Yoga programme has begun this week and will run through to the end of May 2024. Students in Year 2 to 6 will receive a total of 5 Yoga sessions delivered by yoga instructors from Pure Fitness.
Please note that students should wear their Kennedy PE kits on the days they participate in Games, PE and Yoga. As the weather is still very warm, please ensure your child has their Kennedy School hat and a water bottle in school.
Extra Curricular Activities
Netball
Well done to the Kennedy Year 5 and 6 Netball players in the tournament at Wong Chuk Hang yesterday afternoon. Our players were able to apply the tactics and skills they learned from Ms Doherty and Ms Khemlyani in their weekly Netball After School Club. Both our A and B squad players played with great spirit in the matches against Glenealy, Chinese International School, French International School, and Peak and Kellett Schools. Keep up the good work!
Good luck in advance to the Boys and Girls Year 6 Footballers for the tournament next Tuesday!
In the early days of November, you might see people wearing red paper flowers on their shirts. These are poppies which commemorate Remembrance Day on 11 November, the day World War I end in 1918.
Nowadays, we wear poppies to remember those who lost their lives on active service in all conflicts; as well as all those who have served and their families. In Hong Kong, we raise funds for the families of Hong Kong’s ex-servicemen and women who fought and defended Hong Kong.
Poppies are now available in the School Reception. We ask for donations of at least $20 which goes to support the Royal British Legion in Hong Kong.

This is a message to parents who are interested in an additional resource for online and audio books.
The Year 6 regularly use Epic Books https://www.getepic.com/ in class to encourage reading and the teachers have recently discovered that there is a special offer that might be of interest to parents.
Epic Books offers a safe, secure environment where teachers can select content and monitor progress, allowing students to explore books independently, at their own pace. The school provision enables children access to Epic Books, but only during the school day.
The company is now running a special offer for home subscriptions. If you are interested in this, please contact your child’s class teacher to obtain an epic class code which will enable you to access the site at a discounted rate of HK$530 (US$68) per year.
WEEZ Walk 2024
ESF is an official supporting organisation of the Weez Walk 2024. This annual fundraising event was set up in memory of Jamie Bruno, a student at Kennedy School and West Island School who took his own life in 2017 when he was 15 years old. His parents founded the Weez Walk to raise awareness about the warning signs of a potential suicide. The Weez Walk route follows the 60 km coastal trail around Hong Kong Island and can be completed in one go or shorter stages from 20 January until 25 February 2024. Registration is now open with a special discount before 30 November 2023. All proceeds will fund the suicide prevention programme of youth services charity KELY Support Group.
