Dear Parents and Caregivers,
What a busy week it has been! This week, after-school activities began and many students went on excursions. Year 1 students visited the Zen Organic Farm in Fanling for hands-on experiences on the farm. Year 5 explored Central to learn about advertising, while Year 2 was involved in science workshops in school. Thank you to parents for all your help with these activities.
Parent Consultations
Thank you also to the Year 1 parents for their active participation in the consultations today and early next week. Your involvement and support will greatly contribute to the learning progress of your child.
We would like to inform you that we have planned a special Celebration Day in early March, where all parents will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about their child's learning with both the child and the teacher. This will be a wonderful occasion to celebrate the progress and achievements of our students. More details about the Celebration Day will be shared with you soon.
Chinese New Year
The school is all dressed up and looking festive, ready to welcome the Year of the Dragon. To celebrate this important occasion, we have prepared a host of events and activities. On Monday 5 February, we will run a Chinese Fun Carnival for all students. Children can wear casual clothes that day and bring in a $20 donation.
On Thursday 8 February, we will have our more formal Chinese New Year celebrations featuring our very own Lion and Dragon dance troop. Students should wear Chinese-inspired clothing or bright clothing on this day. More details will follow.
Emergency Evacuation
Our annual emergency evacuation procedure exercise will take place on Monday 22 January. Teachers will explain in advance why and how the evacuation works to ensure that students are not scared or worried. The evacuation is signaled by a long continuous bell. The school has procedures in place to evacuate all students and staff to HKU sports fields. In the past, this has worked very well. Over the next month, we will also practice a spontaneous evacuation and a lockdown to ensure that we are ready in case of an emergency.
Calendar for 2024/25
Please find attached the draft ESF Kennedy School Calendar for 2024/25.
School Uniforms
We still have children wearing old sweaters, cardigans and sweatshirts. Our old uniform is now not to be worn to school. You can purchase new items online at the uniform shop. Please be prepared for the cold weather expected next week. Please also note that trainers should only be worn with the PE uniform.
Warm regards,
Brenda

The Winter Influenza Season has arrived! We would like to remind families to take extra care to guard against influenza and other respiratory infections. To prevent outbreaks at school, please monitor your child’s temperature and general condition at home before coming to school. It is of great importance that children with fever - regardless of the presence of respiratory symptoms, like a runny nose and/or cough - should remain at home until he/she is fever-free for 48 hours without the help of medication.
Thank you for helping us to prevent the spread of illness in our school.
Sports Days are coming soon - We need your help!
Our annual Kennedy School Sports Days will take place on the following days:
Year 3/4 : Thursday 1st February morning 8.45 - 11.30 am
Year 1/2 : Thursday 1st February afternoon 12.15 - 2.30 pm
Year 5/6 : Friday 2nd February morning 8.45 am - 12.20 pm
For the event to run smoothly, we need 4 parent volunteers per class to help score the activities. As a volunteer, you will be instrumental in this very exciting day and be best placed to enjoy the events at the same time!
For more information about the event and the simple scoring system, please see the Sports Day activities booklets below:
Year 1 and 2 Sports Day Information
Year 3 and 4 Sports Day Information
Year 5 and 6 Sports Day Information
Volunteers should meet the PE team at 8.45 am or 12.15 pm at the HKU running track for a briefing before the students arrive.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please message your child's class parent and class teacher to let them know.
Term 2 Clubs are up and running!
It is our aim to give as many students as possible the opportunity to try out and play a wide variety of sports. This term, we are proud to offer the following sports - football, rugby, running, yoga, netball, racket sports, hockey and basketball. There are still spaces in the Hockey Club on Fridays which is open to Years 4,5 and 6. If your child is interested in this club, please message Mrs Badri (tbadri@kennedy.edu.hk) to sign up. Thank you to all of the teachers who are helping to offer such a varied sports programme this term.
Yearband Led Dress Up Day - Friday 19th January
A gentle reminder that it is a whole school dress up day tomorrow on Friday 19th January and Year 3 are in charge!
They have decided that the theme for the whole school is Sparkle and shine, dress up and dazzle. Children are encouraged to wear sparkling clothes or accessories.
On the day, please send your child with a suggested minimum donation of $20 which will be collected as students arrive at school. Year 3 will use the donations to organise a year group activity.
PTA Coffee Morning - Friday 19th January 8:30 - 9:15 am
Please join us for a casual get together over coffee! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to connect at the start of Term 2. We are planning an exciting Chinese New Year Carnival for all students on 5 February and would love to have more parent volunteers.
Please register your intention to come to the coffee morning by signing up here.
When you arrive at school, please head to the ground floor reception and sign the blue visitors book. You may then head up to the Staff Room on the 3rd Floor of the East Wing directly after that. The lift is accessed via the car park.
