Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Celebration of Learning and 3-Way Conference - Parent Guidance
We are delighted to be welcoming you on Tuesday 5 March to celebrate your child’s learning at Kennedy School. Please note that all after-school activities are cancelled on this day and no buses will run. Families can travel around the school together and visit their sibling's classes. Students can wear casual clothes on Tuesday. Below are some guidelines to help you and your child get the most out of your day.
The intentions of the day:
For parents to engage with their children in their school life and get a window into learning.
For students, in collaboration with their teacher, to take ownership of their learning by sharing their strengths and stretches and next steps.
For teachers to inform parents of progress and achievement.
To strengthen the partnership between home and school, to work as a team to support learning, growth and well-being.
What to do before or after your classroom visit?
There are many other activities that we encourage you to visit any time before or after your designated appointment.
Ask your child to take you on a tour of the school:
Visit the gym and lower playground to get involved in PE activities.
Visit our after-school activities promotions on the playground.
Visit the hall, where you can learn about and engage in your child’s Chinese language learning.
Visit the octagonal to see what’s been going on in our exploration days and try your hand using a Dashbot robot.
Visit the Expressive Arts and Visual Arts area to find out about your child’s learning in these areas and participate with your child in some activities.
What do I do during the classroom time?
Each block of time in your child’s class will run for 50 minutes and will involve approximately 4 families at one time in the classroom.
During this classroom session, there will be a 3-way conference with the teacher, your child and yourself to discuss and reflect upon learning, including your child’s strengths and stretches and progress to date.
The rest of the time in class will involve engaging in learning conversations with your child, viewing learning samples and interacting with your child in a variety of other interesting tasks.
Classes will open at 8.10 am and close at 4.00 pm. Please keep this in mind if you have one of the first or last appointments.
Top Tips for Parents:
Let your child lead the activities as much as possible.
Stay positive - this is a time for celebration!
Take time to really engage in conversation with your child; put away distractions such as mobile phones.
Use open questions to help support the conversation. Here are some sample questions that you may wish to use:
Sample Questions to support your child in talking about their learning.
Which piece of learning makes you feel proud?
Tell me what kinds of challenges you faced in completing this piece of work. How did you overcome them?
What does this piece of learning tell you about your strengths as a student?
In what areas do you feel you need to grow and develop?
What new skills did you learn by doing this?
Which piece of work stretched you the most? Why?
Stakeholder survey
ESF has sent out a stakeholder survey to parents, staff and older students. Please get involved by giving feedback to help us continually improve. Thanks for taking the time to complete the survey.

On Thursday, we welcomed ESF Glenealy School to race with us at the HKU Stanley Ho athletics track. This was a great opportunity for our Year 4 to 6 Running Club students to race against another school in a friendly yet competitive environment. The running club members really enjoyed themselves and agreed that this was a great way to start the day.
Island Racket Sports Festival - 1 March
Today we hosted a Racket Sports Festival at HKU and Kennedy School involving many of our Year 5 / 6 racket sports students. In difficult weather conditions, our students excelled in close competition against 7 other international schools in Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis and Pickleball. This was a fantastic opportunity for our racket sports players to play against other schools and we hope to continue to offer these opportunities to students in the future. Congratulations to our Table Tennis players for placing first and second in the competition and well done to our Badminton pairs in their 3rd place overall finish.

Diving Deeper into the Primary Years Programme
On Monday, 11 March 8:30 - 10:00 am, we will be hosting the workshop Diving Deeper into the Primary Years Programme. This hands-on, in-school workshop will be designed for parents who have already attended an introductory workshop or webinar about PYP and would like to further their understanding.
In this workshop, we will be exploring:
What does it really mean to be an inquirer?
How do we intentionally develop the skills and dispositions necessary to become a successful life-long inquirer in a school setting?
How can parents support children in developing the necessary skills and dispositions to become a successful inquirer?
Please register for the workshop by filling out this short questionnaire.
There are a few questions on the questionnaire about your current thoughts on inquiry. Your answers will help to guide the planning of the workshop. The questionnaire should take no more than a few minutes to complete.
If you have any questions on this, please contact Cath Wan at cwan@kennedy.edu.hk.
Year 2 Rainbow Dress-Up Day - an update
Last Friday, Year 2 had the whole school wearing outfits matching the theme “Rainbow.” We saw a wide range of colourful outfits and raised over $10,390! Well done everyone!
Year 6 - Science Dome
Year 6 used the funds from their Pink Dress-Up Day for a Science Dome activity last Thursday and Friday. Children enjoyed the inflatable mobile planetarium and had fun learning about space and science exploration through this interactive experience.
