Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3!
My Special Aunty Initiative
I am very excited to announce that we are working with the NGOs Pathfinders and Enrich HK to host the soft launch of their new initiative; a book titled, “My Extra Special Aunty”. This book has been produced to help children learn more about their aunties (family domestic helpers), the important role they play at the heart of many families, and some of the reasons that motivate aunties to come and work in Hong Kong. We believe that this will be an enriching experience for our students, and it will grow awareness of the invaluable contributions made by many aunties to their well-being and care.
Books will be available for sale, and all proceeds will be donated to Pathfinders and Enrich and will be used to support migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. Please complete the Google Form here if you would like to pre-order your own copy.
Parent Feedback has led to a couple more initiatives
As the temperature rises and the bug activity increases, we will be establishing sunscreen and mosquito stations in all the outdoor play areas at school. If your child is susceptible to insect bites or sunburn, please apply mosquito spray and sunscreen at home before coming to school and they can ‘top up’ at school if needed.
To avoid overcrowding we will be opening the back gate each morning, in addition to the front gate, from 8.10 to 8.20 am.
Staffing Update
On a staffing note, we are very sad to say goodbye to Cheryl Wong, an EA who has been with Kennedy School for over 14 years. Cheryl has been supporting Year 1 teachers and students for many years. She is widely known as nurturing, caring and thoroughly dedicated to the students in her care. Cheryl will spend a few days working together with Kayla Santos the new EA in 1C before her last day here on Friday, 19 April. We wish Cheryl happiness and joy in her retirement.
Kind regards,
Brenda

PTA Coffee Morning - Tomorrow, Friday 12 April
Welcome back to school! The PTA is hosting a casual get-together over coffee tomorrow, Friday, 12 April at 8:30 am in the Staffroom. Coffee Mornings are a great way to meet and connect with other parents and particularly great for parents who are new to Kennedy School. To enable us to prepare enough refreshments, please register your intention to come to the coffee morning by signing up here.
Yearband-Led Dress Up Day - Friday 19 April
The Year 5s have decided that the whole school should dress up in Black and White on Friday 19 April 2024. Everyone can come wearing clothing or accessories in black and white- from a whole outfit to a T-shirt or fun black and white patterns.
Please send your child with a suggested minimum donation of $20 which will be collected as students arrive at school.

On Thursday 30 May 2024, we will be holding our first Celebration of Music showcasing all our musical groups - the choir, orchestra, rock band, as well as soloists! Please review the poster below and please mark your calendars! We hope to see many of you there.
Term 3 Clubs have begun!
It is great to see our students already enjoying the sporting opportunities on offer this term. In Term 3,we focus on swimming, aquathon, cricket, hockey, martial arts, multisports, football and golf.
I was thrilled with the overwhelming response to the Golf Club interest form, so we will be taking students to the new Golf simulator in Wong Chuk Hang this Friday. (Parents of participating students for this term have already been contacted.) Thank you to everyone who filled in the form. If the club proves successful, we plan to expand our Kennedy golf interest in Term 1 after the summer break. Please keep an eye out for more information in the weekly newsletter.
All Staff-Run After School Sports Clubs are now full except for Year 4/5 Hockey. If you would like your child to join the Hockey Club, please contact office@kennedy.edu.hk to sign them up as soon as possible.
Transiting from Games to Swimming
Our last games session for the academic year is on Wednesday 24th April. From Monday, 29 April, we will jump into the pool and start our swimming programme. Once the swimming timetable is confirmed, it will be shared with you.
Every year, a global City Nature Challenge is run to find out how many species of flora and fauna there are in our cities. This year, the virtual event will take place from 26 to 29 April 2024. Participation is free and all you need is a mobile phone with a camera and the INaturalist app. If this sounds interesting, please have a look at this letter from the organising body in Hong Kong, OWL Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong. You can find out more at the https://www.hkiscnc.org/. We hope families will take the opportunity to spend time outdoors and explore nature together!
