Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It has been an exciting time of transition for our students at Kennedy School.
Our Year 6 students spent two days at West Island School where they explored the campus, experienced new ways of learning, and got a taste of what lies ahead. It was an exciting adventure for them!
Our Year 1 teachers have also been busy visiting our ESF kindergartens to meet the new students who will be joining us in August. We look forward to welcoming these young learners into our school community.
My Extra Special Auntie
We were thrilled to launch the "My Extra Special Auntie" initiative in collaboration with two talented Kennedy School parents - Award-winning filmmaker Joanna Bowers (Y4) and PathFinders CEO Catherine Gurtin (Y5/6). Joanna created a bilingual children's book, beautifully illustrated by migrant domestic workers. It is a wonderful project that celebrates diversity and supports a great cause!
Last week, we hosted Joanna and Cristina Cayat (illustrator) for the official read-aloud launch and have already sold more than 140 books. All proceeds go to PathFinders and Enrich HK to support more Extra Special Aunties. We have a small number of books left if you are still keen to purchase.
Many thanks to the Kennedy families for encouraging their 'Special Aunties' to attend the afternoon tea event on Friday. We had a fantastic turnout, with over 100 Aunties connecting, making new friends, and learning about the invaluable support available to them from Enrich and Pathfinders. A special shout out to Neil Scott (6S) for leading this successful initiative as part of our ongoing work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Year Book
We have received a record order of more than 700 yearbooks so far! Please remember that the deadline for orders is Friday 17 May. There is no opportunity to order after this date. To place your order, please log into your Gateway account and complete the epayment notice there. The books will be delivered to your child’s classroom in June.
We hope you have a fantastic week ahead.
Kind regards,
Brenda

It is my pleasure to formally invite you to Kennedy School’s 'Celebration of Music' which will feature our talented students.
There will be performances from the Choir, fresh from the success of the ESF Choral Concert, Orchestra, ensembles and soloists, and the KS Rock Band playing classical pieces, pop, rock, traditional music and fan favourites. Please come and clap along and support the students in their musical endeavours!
This event is open to all Kennedy School families though the priority is for the families with students performing.
There will also be a live stream of the event. The link will be shared at a later date.

Recently the Educational Psychology Service delivered a webinar for parents on the topic of Sleep. (Lights Out, Sweet Dreams: A Practical Webinar on Sleep for Parents and Caregivers).
As a follow-up to the webinar, the Educational Psychology Service has created the following documents which are worth a read. Please review these at your leisure.
- ESF Sleep Webinar Summary for Parents
- ESF Sleep Information for Young People (age 11+)
We would like to provide a quick update about swimming and ECAs.

Support for a Family in Need
This is an open invitation to everyone at Kennedy School - including parents and caregivers - to come and run with us in support of an ex-Kennedy PE Teacher and Sandy Bay/HK rugby player, Liam Slatem. Liam’s young son is undergoing significant medical treatments at the moment and the HK community is rallying around to do some fundraising for the family,
The plan is to run along the seawall behind HKU Stanley Ho Sports Centre this Saturday 11th May from 8.30 am to 9.00 am. We will attempt to run this 1 km route as many times as we can within that time but welcome everyone to walk or run as much or as little as you wish.
We will be hosting an “Open Day” on Wednesday 22nd May (3.00 to 4.30 pm) for current Year 3 children who are keen to join Kennedy School’s Cub Scout pack.
This is a unique opportunity for children to witness some of the indoor activities our cubs engage in. They can chat with our existing cubs about the outdoor adventures, such as hiking and camping, that they've embarked on throughout the past year, which we will do more of in the coming year.
Spaces is limited, so please book a spot in advance by emailing our Akela, Charlene Stubbs at kennedycubshk@gmail.com by Tuesday 14 May 2024.
We will send an email confirmation to you after registration closes.
Note 1: We are aware that children from different year groups are also interested in joining our cub pack, but for now, we are keeping this session for Year 3s only and will reach out again should more spaces become available.
Note 2: This is not a sign-up day. The sign-up process will occur at a later date.

PTA organised a special treat on Staff and Teacher Appreciation Day on Monday May 6th. Over cupcakes and popcorn, we unveiled a wall of heartfelt messages from the children thanking teachers, EAs,caretakers for helping them.
