Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Celebration of Learning and Consultations
Thanks for attending the day and for your constructive feedback on ways we can continue to improve the experience for your family. One piece of feedback suggested more opportunities to talk with the teachers. Our schedules involve another opportunity to have an online consultation with your child’s teacher during the weeks of 25 November to 6 December. More details will follow soon about booking a time for this.
New Way of Reporting about Units of Inquiry (UOI)
Cath Carter (VP and PYP Coordinator) has put together this Explainer video which gives clear guidance on how the UOI reports will be communicated with Parents. Mid-year and End of year Reports will stay in the same format as you are used to.
UOI reports will be on Sessaw and you will receive an APP message to inform you of their release. Please watch this 11-minute video here which explains how it works.
Diwali Celebrations and Sharing
As Diwali approaches, we're inviting all children and families to share about this important celebration. We encourage your child to participate by sharing a practiced item, stories, or how their family celebrates Diwali. We'll include a variety of Diwali items in our assemblies during the week of 4 November. Please encourage your children to get involved!
To register your child's interest in performing, please fill out this brief form by Wednesday, 23 October.
To further embrace the spirit of Diwali, we encourage our school community to wear culturally inspired clothing on Thursday, 7 November. No donation is required. We especially encourage children who are presenting in the assemblies to wear their attire on the day of their performance.
Let's come together to make this Diwali celebration a truly memorable and inclusive experience for everyone.
Fun-O-Ween
By popular demand, Fun-O-Ween dress-up day is confirmed for Thursday, 31 October. Children should wear fun costumes or fancy dress costumes - any theme is fine, avoiding anything too scary. Ensure costumes meet the criteria to avoid frightening younger children. No money or sweets/candies please.
PTA AGM
A huge thank you to our dedicated PTA members, past and present! The AGM was a fantastic celebration of all we've accomplished together. Your hard work has made a real difference in our school and community."
Year 6 School Ambassadors
This week, we officially welcomed our new Year 6 School Ambassadors. A big thank you to all of the children who applied for positions and congratulations to those who were chosen by staff to take up important roles as Arts, Sports, Chinese Language, Library, Friendly School, Innovation, Environmental and Safe Squad Ambassadors. All of these roles help to foster a sense of student voice and responsibility among students whilst aiming to improve our school for the benefit of everyone.
Box of Hope
We have been overwhelmed by the generous support of families in donating items for Box of Hope. We will continue collecting until tomorrow (Friday). Next week, students should bring their (empty) decorated boxes and cards which will be filled in school before being sent to the Box of Hope charity for distribution.
Thank you again for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Brenda

Techni Photo will be in school from Monday to Friday, 21 to 25 October 2024, to take individual portrait photos as well as class photos of the children. On the day the children have their photograph taken, they should be in their formal school uniform. Their hair accessories should be in plain school colours of purple, grey, black or white.
After the photos have been taken, Techni Photo will send order forms to school for distribution to all students. Please look out for these which should arrive after few weeks.
The photo schedule is as follows:
Year 6 Swim Gala
Date: Friday 18 October 2024
Time: 9.00 am to 12.15 pm
Venue: HKU Stanley Ho Swimming Pool
We are excited to host our Year 6 swimming gala tomorrow and look forward to a thrilling morning of swimming participation, competition and house rivalry. The students have been selected for their races based on their abilities shown this term as recommended by the Aquakidz swim coaches.
All Year 6 parents are invited to come and watch this thrilling event!
For the gala, all students will wear their regular swimming suit and we are encouraging them to wear swim caps in their House colours as they are scoring points for their House. Long hair must be tied up. Students will need a small snack, water bottle and towel to the pool and sunscreen should be applied at home.
The swimming gala is part of the Year 6 swimming programme run by Aquakidz in close co-operation with the PE Department.
Kennedy Swimming lessons
On 23 and 25 October, we have 2 days of swimming sessions for classes that missed their regular swim session due to inclement weather this term. These will be their last swim lesson this term which means it is their water safety swim lesson.
Students need to bring in the following clothes IN ADDITION to their usual swim kit:
Y2: white t-shirt (for the first lesson of the week only)
Y3 & 4: light coloured baggy shorts and white long sleeved T-shirt
Y5 & 6: light coloured tracksuit/pyjama bottoms and white long sleeved T-shirt.
Only white or light coloured clothing will be permitted in the pool as dark colours react with the chlorine.
STUDENTS WILL BE UNDER STRICT SUPERVISION BY THE AQUAKIDZ EXPERIENCED AND FULLY ACCREDITED TEACHERS AT ALL TIMES .
Please refer to the swimming timetable to ensure your child is prepared on the correct day.
The final two days of the swimming schedule:
Games will start soon
As we finish the swimming block for this term, our focus will switch to Games.
Games takes place both at school and at HKU Stanley Ho Sports Centre. Please note the following:

Games is taught by the class teachers, PE teachers and also with specialist sports coaches in upper years.
On Games days, students will need to wear their PE kit the whole day.
The Kennedy Games programme will run until the end of Term 2.

Well done Netballers!
Yesterday, Mrs Wood took our netball players to Wong Chuk Hang Sports Ground for friendly matches against other international schools. The team played in a competitive spirit and enjoyed the afternoon. Thank you to Mrs Wood and our Sandy Bay coach Emily training the players! It really paid off as our team had some good wins against strong opposition such as French International School, Peak and Quarry Bay School.
Good Luck Kennedy girls footballers!
This Saturday morning, we will take 2 teams of Year 5/6 girls to Peak School for the ESF Island Girls Football Tournament. I am sure that our girls will really enjoy the morning and score lots of goals. Let’s go, girls!
