Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Happy 2026! We hope you enjoyed the festive season and of course, we’re looking forward to the festivities of Chinese New Year coming up soon too. The children returned to school happy and calm and we’ve had a wonderful start to the new year.
Parent Information Workshop Series
We are delighted to continue our Parent Information Workshop Series presentations involving the West Island School Leadership team. The first one of these is tomorrow morning, Friday 9 January from 8.30-9.30 am in the School Hall. Sign up HERE for this in-person event.
Playground Renovations
The North Wing Rooftop and the Octagonal are being renovated now. The North Wing will remain closed until early June, though we expect the Octagonal to be back in use after Chinese New Year. Our Year 3 children are settling well into their new routine in the downstairs area, while Year 4–6 students are enjoying opportunities to picnic and play in HKU as a year group.
Throughout the week, Years 4–6 are also rostered into other school areas, including the library, East Wing rooftop, the hall, and their classrooms. We have intentionally scheduled indoor play on days when students have PE or HKU games to ensure they still receive outdoor time for play and learning most days. This rota is working well so far, and we will continue to refine it as we collect feedback from students and staff.
Our Early Years Playground enhancements have been completed this week with the creation of a Traffic Town for our younger children. There was great excitement about the new road systems, traffic controls, EV chargers and petrol pumps that have been introduced. The children immediately set about creating their own role play scenarios and letting their imagination run wild with the equipment! Special thanks to the PTA who helped to fund the equipment, our team of designers - Ms Kim, Ms Kayla, Mrs Isaacs and Ms Amelia, as well as Cindy and Michael from the office, together with our site team, who sourced and fitted all the equipment.

School Uniform - Winter Garments
Please ensure your child has the appropriate black shoes to wear with the school uniform and the Kennedy School sweatshirt, jersey or jacket for the cooler temperatures. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING! After 4 days at school, we already have more garments in the lost property box without names.
Warm regards,
Brenda

On Monday 9 February 9:00 am - 2:50 pm, Kennedy School will be holding our annual CNY Carnival for all students in the school's Lower Playground. There will be booths with games that enhance the festive spirit and allow parents and students to have fun together.
In order for this event to happen, we would like to invite parents to assist with the running of the game booths. The schedule is as follows:
Year 1/2: 9:00 am - 10:30 am (Year 1 parents are invited to join their children in playing the games)
Year 3/4: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Year 5/6: 1:20 pm - 2:50 pm
If you are able to come and help, please sign up at THIS LINK.
There are limited spaces which will be allocated on a first-come basis. Please sign up early to avoid disappointment.
Refreshments will be provided.
Note that all parent volunteers are required to complete the Child Protection declaration in the Gateway in advance prior to helping in school. Please click here for information on how to submit the Child Protection declaration if you have not made the declaration. The form only needs to be completed once a year for a parent to volunteer in school or for school trips/events.
